Dam body is a main part of the CFRD dam having different zone of soil and rock fill as shown in picture. 

ZONE 2A

Perimeter zone fine filter

Sand and gravel filter within 2m of the perimeter joint. It will be 19mm down sandy gravel and to be compacted using vibrator roller with 4-10 passes.

ZONE 2B

Face slab bedding layers

75mm down sandy gravel to be placed at 400mm thick layers and to be compacted using vibratory roller with 4-10 passes. The width of the zone 2B will be 230 mm.

ZONE 3A

Transition zone between ZONE 2B and ZONE 3B

Small size quarry run rock filled with maximum size of 300 mm or less placed in 450 mm layers, compacted with 4-10 passes of 10 ton or heavier vibratory roller. Width of the ZONE 3A will be 2m.

ZONE 3B

Good Quality Rock fill

Rockfill with maximum 450 mm placed in 600 mm layers and compacted with 4-10 passes of 10 ton vibratory roller.

ZONE 3C

Average Quality Rock fill

Rockfill with maximum 750 mm placed in 1000 mm layers and compacted with 4-10 passes of 10 ton vibratory roller.

ZONE 3D

Large rock, dozed to Downstream face
